Don’t ask why, ask how.

Don’t ask why, ask how.
By Pastor Gael Orr
I’m one of those people that try really hard to make lemonade out of life’s proverbial lemons.  My life’s vision is to become the most positive, optimistic non-judgmental person humanly possible.  Some might suggest that I’ve been served the biggest lemon you could get in life, which is losing a child….

To tithe or not to tithe, that is the question…

Here are 10 points from Bill Johnson´s teaching on the tithe. We find these instructions very helpful. Bill Johnson is the apostolic leader of Bethel Redding in California.

1) A fundamental question is this: Is the tithe a principle only for those who live under the Law of Moses?

A Mission Statement for Life

A Mission Statement for Life
By Pastor Gael J. B. Orr

“There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle.” – Albert Einstein

I am blessed. I work for a wonderful company where the first thing you see upon entering any of the doors of our facility…

Independence Day

As we get ready to celebrate Independence Day, I can’t help but think of another great battle for independence.  Declaring independence is risky business.  There is a cost…

“Loving God”

Mark 12:30 is a very clear verse in the Bible, it says…
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”  I am no genius but I think most people would agree that Jesus is telling us we need to really, really, really love God.  In the Star Trek series they Captain and crew had orders to go where no man has gone before.  However, in doing this mission they also had a prime directive that they had to follow.

Mission Impossible

Mission: Impossible

Matthew 19:26 – Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (NIV)

I was delighted to discover that an obscure cable television channel is showing reruns of one of my favorite old shows, Mission: Impossible. From the unique theme song to the plan and the payoff, I was always on the edge of my seat.

Mother’s Day

Pastor Gael Orr – Last October my daughter Tara Autumn died.  So, I decided to share something I’ve shared with a chosen few, with the rest of the world.   I stripped much of this from my personal diary, but I’m happy to share it with you.

The Church is in Good Hands

The Church is in Good Hands!

“On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” Matthew 16:18

We need to pray every day for Christians who are persecuted for their faith. Watching the news, reading the paper, and surfing the net one can easily be gripped by images from the Middle East. Constant stories around the world about what people are doing to followers of Jesus Christ.

Sick of Hearing about Small Groups?

Sick of Hearing About Small Groups?

Hebrews 10:24-25

24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Spring of the Soul

Spring has finally started to emerge.  It certainly was a long cold winter, with lots of snow this year.  One of the things about living in upstate ny, you definitely get to experience all of the seasons.  Of all the changes I think we long for Spring the most.  Why?  It follows a long period of gray skies, dark evenings, bitter cold days, dead trees and plant life and a sense of dormancy and gloom.  But, ahhh… spring has sprung.  With it comes a promise of new life, blue skies, plenty of warmth and sunshine, the trees and flowers begin to come back to life, and we gain a sense of hope, well being and promise of good days ahead.  Well Life often mimics the natural world.  All too often we struggle with the same elements of dormancy and gloom in our souls. However, we can experience a Spring of the Soul.  The scripture says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun!”  Just like spring after a long cold winter, new life emerges.  So as we celebrate this new season, let us not forget the new season Jesus made available for our souls.  –Pastor Shawn Harnish
