Brief Message
So what exactly is a disciple? Perhaps this is a word you’ve heard used around church a bunch.  But what it means is very simple.  It means someone who follows and tries to live like Jesus, that’s it.  And just like the people in the story you just heard Jesus asks us to follow Him too.  But unlike Peter, John, and the rest of Jesus’ disciples we cannot walk around everywhere with Him.  So how do we follow Jesus?
Well the first way we can follow Jesus is by reading the bible.  To read about Jesus’ life on earth.  How he lived, who He said he was, and how Jesus asks us to live.

The second is by spending time with Him.  Even though Jesus is no longer living here on earth with us, thanks to the gift of the Holy Spirit we can still spend time with Jesus.  We do so by praying and speaking with Him.  By worshipping and praising Jesus, thanking Him for all the good things He’s given us.  And by spending time with other Christians, learning about God from them and seeing how Jesus has worked in their lives.

Then finally we can follow Jesus, by doing our best to live the way Jesus lived and asks us to live too.  By being kind, generous, and most of all loving.  Jesus tells us in the bible the best way to live like Him.
In the book of Matthew Jesus tells his followers that,
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

In the book of John Jesus also says this when speaking to his disciples,

“Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

To follow Jesus and be a disciple we must learn about Him, we must spend time with Him, and we must do our best to live a kind and loving life just like He did.
