You Can’t Afford to Not to Give

‘Bring to the storehouse a full tenth of what you earn so there will be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the LORD All-Powerful. ‘I will open the windows of heaven for you and pour out all the blessings you need’” (Malachi 3:10 NCV).

If you want God to bless your finances, put him first in your finances. This is called the spiritual discipline of giving.

God is specific about this habit of giving the first part of your income back to him: “‘Bring to the storehouse a full tenth of what you earn so there will be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord All-Powerful. ‘I will open the windows of heaven for you and pour out all the blessings you need’” (Malachi 3:10 NCV).

Papers & Boxes

Was it a night like this when you were born
The sky painted dark, but the stars so clear
While you were sharing with the animals their room
Did they smile and look at you
Like they do in the coloring books, and cartoons,
And I wish that I could’ve held you

A Beautiful Death in Fall

The ruckus of autumn’s glory gives way to the silence of winter. Just in time for me to notice how many leaves there are and how beautiful each is, they’re going. The colors fade, and the leaves fall.

Battle of the Mind

“I have made up my mind to obey your laws forever, no matter what” (Psalm 119:112 CEV). The reason why most people are ineffective in life is that they’ve never learned how to fight the battle of the mind.

God Finds Joy in You

God Finds Joy in You

“I’m a mess. I’m nothing and have nothing; make something of me. You [God] can do it; you’ve got what it takes” (Psalm 40:17 The Message).

A lot of people are afraid to trust Jesus with their lives because they think that means he will narrow it. He’ll cramp their style and make their life smaller with a lot of rules and restrictions.

Change requires the Holy Spirit

“Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God — truly righteous and holy” (Ephesians 4:21-24 NLT).

You need more power than just willpower in your life. You need God’s power in your life.

The “fruit of the Spirit” are the qualities that God puts in your life when the Holy Spirit lives through you: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Praying for an unbeliever

For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10 NASB).

If you asked 50 random people, “How do you get to Heaven?” you’d get a lot of different answers. But most of them would be based on the idea that you can (and have to) earn your way to Heaven.

Significance Comes from Serving

“Each of you has received a gift to use to serve others. Be good servants of God’s various gifts of grace” (1 Peter 4:10 NCV).

To experience significance in life, you must serve with others in ministry. Ministry just means doing good to other people.

Significance does not come from status or a hood ornament on your car or a logo on your shirt. Significance does not come from a bigger salary. Significance does not come from sex.

Christmas is a Season of Giving

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”(John 3:16 NIV).

During this Christmas season, you’ll hear one word more than any other. It’s not “merry,” “tree,” “Santa,” or even — unfortunately — “Jesus.”
