Halloween… Yes or No?

Should Christians celebrate Halloween… Yes or No?

Well let’s take a look at the history of this sugary holiday.  The name “Halloween” comes from the All Saints Day celebration of the early Christian church, a day set aside for the solemn remembrance of the martyrs. All Hallows Eve, the evening before All Saints Day, began the time of remembrance. “All Hallows Eve” was eventually contracted to “Hallow-e’en,” which became “Halloween.”

Pastor Gael on Sabbatical

pastoral-sabbatical

The word sabbatical is drawn from Sabbath. The Hebrew word for Sabbath means to “close or rest” and is connected with the last day of Creation when God rested. (Genesis 2:3) God both models and commands Sabbath rest for his people. “Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy.” (Exodus 20:8-11)

God’s Calling You!

2012-What_On_Earth_Am_I_Here_For_BookRoots-Logo-CMYK
The Bible is filled with the stories of God calling people, how they answered, and what God’s purpose was for them. We all have a calling; a purpose that God has for our lives. Your calling is not your job, which is temporary. Your calling is a permanent purpose that God gave you even before you were born.

As we get ready to launch our “What on Earth am I here for” campaign, I am reminded of a song I used to love.  Steven Curtis Chapman penned the words to “More to this life”.  The song speaks to the universal core question that lies in everyone of us.  What is the point to this life?  There has to be more!!!  Check out the lyrics to this song.

“Loving God”

Mark 12:30 is a very clear verse in the Bible, it says…
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”  I am no genius but I think most people would agree that Jesus is telling us we need to really, really, really love God.  In the Star Trek series they Captain and crew had orders to go where no man has gone before.  However, in doing this mission they also had a prime directive that they had to follow.
