Independence Day

As we get ready to celebrate Independence Day, I can’t help but think of another great battle for independence.  Declaring independence is risky business.  There is a cost…
Many people don’t realize that our fore fathers debated greatly over whether or not to seek independence or just reform.  Either way they knew there was going to be a tremendous cost.  History of course tells us what they chose.  Total Independence from England.  Do you realize the Declaration of Independence is really an indictment on King George?  It was.  They saw King George as a maniacal tyrant.  Who by order of the King’s laws kept people in subjection to him.  The Revolutionary War came at a great price, some 650,000 soldiers lost their lives.  Was it worth it?  A resounding YES is in order.  Now let me point you to a parallel story.  The greatest Independence Day ever.  The day Jesus waged war on sin, the devil, and death. Jesus conquered the law, the devil and death.  In this battle only one life was lost.  Jesus sacrificed himself, for the freedom of all mankind.  Was it worth it?  Jesus answers with a resounding YES!    “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” Galatians 5:1
